“This little light of mine… I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine….
….let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”
I used to sing this song when I was younger and have sung it to all of my babies.
And it remains true.
We were all born with a light within us.
It’s our joy, our happiness, our creativity, our curiosity…. our zest for life.
“We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Our light, like our fingerprint, is original and it is ours.
It is brilliant.
It is timeless.
It is strong.
It is of God.
It is our duty and our privilege to shine.
3 Ways to Make Our Light Brighter
We have learned ways to diminish our light for various reasons. Self preservation, socialization, security, ego…. Now is the time we must allow ourselves to let go of those old ways…. and allow our light to be seen… and heard…. and to flourish.
1.) Self CareHot baths, meditation, yoga, exercise, warm hugs… all the things that fill our pitcher…. all the things that leave us feeling fuller… lighter… with more spirit and our soul feeling satisfied.
Decide to do something every day, even if it’s just for 60 seconds, that make you feel so fully and completely loved and accepted.
2.) Say Bye Felicia to the junk
Choose one thing you are willing to let go of… maybe it’s gossip… maybe it’s watching tv late at night instead of reading that book you know you really want to read. Maybe it’s not eliminating something but incorporating something else… like mindfulness…
Decide you will be more mindful when it comes to how much you judge others… or judge yourself
3.) Ask yourself WWJD
So we can totally ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” Or another question to ask is “What would my higher self want me to do… or how would my higher self respond to this.” Lately, I have been chanting ‘love and compassion’ when I feel myself loosing patience with my kids, so I can remind myself to look at the situation…and them…with more love and compassion.
